As the Days of Noah Were…

Matthew 24:36-44

36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

08 The Four HorsemenApocalypse Now!
This site’s teaching article, Apocalypse Now!, shows the key event connections of Jesus’ Matthew 24 eschatology and His opening of the  six seals in Revelation 6. When you understand the inductive study method outlined in biblical hermeneutics, you can pick up on the chronological ascent of Holy Spirit’s  revelation in Scripture. Here are those chronological connections again:False prophets/the phony white rider in seal #1 (Matt 24:4,5; Rev 6:1,2); Wars and rumors of wars/the Red Rider of War in Seal #2 (Matt 24:6; Rev 6:3,4); famines and pestilences/the Black Rider of famine in Seal #3 (Matt 24:7; Rev 6:5,6); the Great Tribulation/the Pale Rider of death in Seal #4 who kills a quarter of the earth (Matt 24:15-22; Rev 6:7,8); tremendous loss of life during the Tribulation/the Tribulation martyrs in Seal #5 (Matt 24: 22; Rev 6:9-11); the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory/the Great Day of His Wrath in Seal #6 (Matt 24: 29-31; Rev 6:12-17).

In this sequence of passages, God’s Holy Spirit proclaims these things will come to pass.  Jesus said the closing days of these events would be “as the days of Noah were,” and that we the church should be watching for the Lord Jesus’ return because: “the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matt 24:44).

The days of Noah that prompted God’s despise of man and condemnation through the Great Flood was born out the wickedness that had taken that generation of Adam to the depths of degradation. They were living their regular everyday lives of willful disobedience, despite Noah’s preaching (2 Peter 2:5).

Genesis 6:5-8, 11,12
5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

1Job021 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

Timothy expanded on this degradation of sin – which is not a doctrine , but the ruination of man – in 2 Timothy 3:1-9:

1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power.

Narsicism, greed, arrogance, mockers of God, disdaining those who brought you into the world and raised you, selfish and promiscuous lovers of pleasure, hypocritical…everyone of these attributes and their disdain for good and love of wickeness brought the great flood in Genesis 7. Growing up in the 60’s and graduating from High School in 1970, I lived through the immoral breakdown of American society that saw the rebellion of witchcraft and humanism “meism” bring the attributes of Noah’s day into America’s 20th Century.  Dress codes were in place during my high school days. Except for small clicks, morals that rejected sex before marriage were culture. So was the social parriah of divorce. With the “free love” hippie movement came the immoral “if it feels good do it” culture that slowly taught culture what sexually transmitted diseases were, the selfishness of meism, and massive divorce. When I got out of the Army in 1976 immorality ruled the day; traditional morals kids were in the minority, and so it goes. Today we see a bold assault by the homosexual community and their advocates to normalize their lifestyle that earned another divine judgment in Lot’s day. Peter connects that infamous judgment with the flood, and encourages the Christian of God’s provision to stay holy in evil’s midst. God wants to save the homosexual, and has saved thousands. The primary ministry for love and accepting this oppressed minority is Exodus International, started in Santa Monica California. Exodus International was recently kicked out of California by their liberal government, and so it goes.

2 Peter 2:4-9
4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment; 5 and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 and if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly lives thereafter; 7 and if He rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men 8 (for by what he saw and heard that righteous man, while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds), 9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment, 10 and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority.

The Holy Spirit gets even more definitive on this Day of Noah last-days wicked mindset through this prophet of the early church:

10 Daring, self-willed, they do not tremble when they revile angelic majesties, 11 whereas angels who are greater in might andunidiotsecuritycouncil power do not bring a reviling judgment against them before the Lord. 12 But these, like unreasoning animals, born as creatures of instinct to be captured and killed, reviling where they have no knowledge, will in the destruction of those creatures also be destroyed, 13 suffering wrong as the wages of doing wrong. They count it a pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are stains and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, as they carouse with you, 14 having eyes full of adultery that never cease from sin, enticing unstable souls, having a heart trained in greed, accursed children; 15 forsaking the right way, they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 but he received a rebuke for his own transgression, for a mute donkey, speaking with a voice of a man, restrained the madness of the prophet.

I saw clearly in my initial three years of salvation from 1978-1981, that these false prophets fill American universities today, leading astray the kids who leave home for a college education. Though Darwin rejected his theory in his latter years of illness when he couldn’t sit up for more than a few minutes at a time, Darwinian evolution is preached in modern day classrooms as the platform of modern day humanism, which both Timothy and Peter revealed 2,000 years ago. Ph.D’s in my classrooms taught evolution as the basis for their rejection of God, believing since we came from the slime, we can act like it.  I was 26 and recently born again when restarting college after the army. But seeing these poor little kids straight out of high school buying into their drivel was painful. I was known as the “radical Christian on the Mezzanine” back then for challenging on occasion the misguided teaching. When deciding to return to a former Ph.D instructor’s classroom for another subject, he rejected the idea straight out. Among other things in his sociology class I raised my hand on occasion to distinguish the futility of  “religion” from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Once after watching a film that sought to “prove” evolution by showing chimps that responded to words with hand signs, I pointed out that it was nothing more than B.F. Skinner behavior modification. Suffice to say I had enemies. So much so, that my world history teacher was cocked and loaded to take me on when I showed up for day one.  But we became friends as I walked in the Lord’s wisdom, and ended up jogging with him.  This was 35 years ago. Today American universities are infamous for their humanistic-motivated political correctness in which all of the attributes of Noah’s Day are taken in stride. Education levels are down, and indoctrination is up.  High schools today are no better. The world mind has ripened. Peter goes on:

2 Peter 2:1-3
1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will 08 The Four Horsemensecretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.  2 Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned;  3 and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

Wow. The prophetic revelation of this evil mindset written by Peter unveils the reality of it all. Having the advantage of Scripture while in secular college (I moved on to Bible College and Christian Graduate School) I could see the wisdom of Holy Scripture every day  in school, and think I had some success with a couple professors.

Look Out for the TV Demon

1 Timothy 3:4: …lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God…

babylonmarvenko Though God has a strong remnant (there are more born-again believers in America today than ever before), Noah’s Day thinking rules the cultural elite. For most born-again Christian believers who work at regular jobs and in the home, the television in our homes is the only influence we regularly receive from today’s Days of Noah wickedness that will soon earn the wrath of God. If you are alive in 2014, and have a television, you know as well as I that much of today’s Network programming is filled with Genesis 6 and 2 Timothy 3 wickedness.  TV is a reflection of fallen humanistic Hollywood writers’ lives and ideas of entertainment, and TV is an idol in our living rooms that must be controlled. There is both evil and good programming. Christians who watch aren’t living a Days of Noah lifestyle in their communities. So to come out from the fallen last-days world mindset’s influence only requires changing the TV channel. Today’s Hollywood whore makers aren’t embarrassed by their fallen filth. They think it’s good. So, schedule your viewing time carefully. And when you have to, turn it off.

christeyeNoah found favor with God because of his disdain for the rebellion of sin and devotion to God. He was a man of blood covenant (Heb: bereth) or the altar (Heb: mizbeach) on which he regularly offered innocent animal sacrifice for the atonement of his sins. Seven kinds of clean sacrificial birds were kept on the ark for sacrifice when it landed on dry ground (Genesis 8:20).

Jesus fulfilled every one of the Old Testament sin offerings as the “sacrifice lamb who takes away the sins of the world” (John 1:29). We are in favor with God today because of Jesus’ forgiveness and favor. If you haven’t received Him yet, there is no better time than today. Simply pray, “Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. Please forgive my sin and come into my heart to make me a new creature today. I will seek your truth in your word and in the local church. Thank you Lord Jesus for saving me now.”

Finally, Peter prophesies a parallel with the Great Flood and the end of the age that will come with fire, not water, in 2 Peter 3:3-7:

3 Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.” 5 For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, 6 through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water. 7 But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

Not “all” flesh has corrupted their way upon the earth (Genesis 6:11), yet. Millions are destined for salvation, and the church is alive for this purpose. So walk in wisdom. Shun the world (cosmos: earth’s society that places itself up and over against the will of God). Noah was saved in his day as we are in ours. Be vigilant.
